My name is Hunter Baughman and I live in Cabot,
Arkansas. I’m am a 22 year old student at Arkansas State
University “Beebe Branch” pursuing a degree in business
management. At nine months old I contracted bacterial
meningitis and it changed my life forever. I have overcome
my disabilities and believe in the saying “if there is a will,
there is a way”.
My whole life has been spent outdoors in Arkansas. I
do not remember the first fish I caught or the first time I was
in a deer stand. I grew up in a family full of crappie
fishermen and began to explore the world of bass fishing
with my cousin at a family condo on Lake Hamilton. I really
enjoyed bass fishing and decided I wanted to try
tournament fishing. When I was 16 I entered the Ford Big
Bass Bonanza on the Arkansas River with my dad. I didn’t
win any money that tournament, but I caught keepers and
realized I had finally found a sport where, with my
disabilities, I felt like I could still compete at the same level
as everyone else. I was hooked on tournament bass
fishing and within a year I owned my first bass boat…before
I owned a truck. Now 6 years later I fish about 175 days a
year, including around 50 tournaments. I hope within the
next few years I will be able to compete at the highest level
of tournament fishing and make it a career instead of a
passionate hobby.
