Ethanol in boat fuel
by Fish Arkansas on Jun.23, 2009, under Uncategorized
Recently we have become aware through some of our friends and fellow anglers that the use of fuel with ethanol added to power your boat could be costly. Gary S. told Arkansas Tournament Fishing Pro Staffer Calvin Ralls that he had been unaware of the problems that it could cause until his boat motor quit while fishing a tournament on Lake Dardanelle a few weeks ago. Gary was completely unaware of what the problem might be until his mechanic handed him a $400.00 plus bill and told him to try to avoid using the ethanol fuel because it damages the fuel lines and the entire fuel system has to be rebuilt and /or replaced. The mechanic went on to say that using mid-grade gasoline can help because it has less ethanol in it, and also adding Stabil to each tank will help prevent the possibility of damage to the fuel system components caused by using ethanol fuel. However, the best prevention is keeping a sharp eye out for gas stations that have NO ETHANOL in the gas that they sell. There are a few still around, and most of the time , they are the “fishing friendly” stations that are going to offer this rare commodity. Be sure if you find a station that offers gas with NO ETHANOL to come back here and add it to this blog to let other anglers kow what stations to fill up at!!

I have a fish which is a spotted puffer fish. Not a dwarf or anything else. He is a spotted puffer fish. At the moment he is tiny, in fact smaller then a goldfish. The sticker on the tank at walmart said he could grow to be about 6 inches. I know that he is a freshwater puffer, but he needs salt in his tank. I know what kind and I have it. The quest that I have is how often should I put the salt in? Thanks for helping me out with this.

Trader Bills in Hot Springs Ar, On Albert Pike Rd, Has 100% gas, I am not a fisherman, but I ride motorcycles so I try to find as many gas stations with pure gas that I can.
Also there is a Fina station about 1 mile from that store on Airport Rd. that has 100% gas too.

Last time I was going to Lake Ouachita, I noticed the little store at the Crystal Springs turn off on Hwy 270 was advertising 100% gas. Not sure if the store is still open or not – it only has 2 pumps, so it’s more of a store, less of a gas station.

The station in Oppello is the Big Star Express and the one on Hwy 7 just south of Jessieville is a Citgo called Gary’s Quick Stop.

I know of three gas stations that have ETHANOL FREE gasoline. Two of them are on Hwy 9 just South of Morrilton. D.J.’s Convenience Store which is just across the Arkansas River bridge from Morrilton, and I don’t know the name of the other one , but if you continue south on Hwy 9 another couple of miles to Oppello, the station on the corner as you turn towards Petit Jean State Park also has NO ETHANOL in their gas. The final one that I know about is north of Hot Springs on Hwy 7 on the west side of the highway. I don’t know the name of this one either, but I believe it is a “fishing friendly” gas station. If you stop by any of these stations and fill up, please let them know that you found them by using this website and you appreciate them for providing access to gas that is ETHANOL FREE.

Thanks for the warning. I over heard some people talk about that a little while back down at the Forrest Wood cup in Pittsburgh but I never got the whole story. Thanks again.

Good warning before we damage our engines. Now we just need to run a boat on biodiesel!
