“Coal Pile” Dumas, AR
by Administrator on Apr.21, 2009, under Arkansas Backwaters
Coal Pile Lake, a backwater of the Arkansas River north of Dumas was acquired by AGFC last fall through negotiation with a hunting club. “Coal Pile” has a near-legendary reputation among bass fishermen and attracts ducks during the fall and winter. Some former state record largemouth bass were caught there.
Although it is closed to hunting, the lake will remain open for fishing and other recreational use. Black commented, “We need to work on getting the entrance to Coal Pile dredged out. It is dangerous now. Bass boats get up on plane and go in at 50 miles an hour if they know the exact spot to hit.”

Hey Jeremy! Thanks for the comment, it is good to see some info posted here by the AGFC. It is a great place to try to find out what some of the anglers may be thinking, and I am glad that you guys appreciate the feedback!

We (AGFC) are very aware of the situation and are working on ways to get this project done. It is going to be a very expensive project but a very important one. We are anglers just like everyone else; however, we always like getting feedback from other anglers too!!

If all bass clubs would wright a letter to the corp. and game and fish something may get done. The fishermen in Arkansas need to togeather and let agfc now what they are thinking. The gators are on the big side. The biggest gator i have seen there is 15 feet.

It does need to be dredged if you are going to access it from the river, but the boat ramp that was at one time private, is now available for public use. It is not a paved ramp and the parking lot is not big enough to accomodate very many trucks with trailers, but as with most public use facilities, if you get there early enough, there should be a spot to park. Oh, and leave your dog at home… unless he eates gator. LOL.
